Florida is home to many men and women who have honorably served our country in the armed services.  
Unfortunately, there is often a large price to pay for experiencing the harsh reality of war.  As a result, some veterans
return to our country suffering from mental illness and/or the lingering effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  
These effects on the veteran may be compounded by a lack of family and social support networks as they seek refuge in
unhealthy choices leading to addiction and possibly homelessness.   Volunteers of America of Florida serves homeless
veterans through our Housing, Health and Training, Education and Employment  Services.   As part of this innovative
program, veterans can be linked with community resources and employment services such as employment counseling,
job training, case management, as well as veterans-only resources such as support groups. 

Our work throughout the state of Florida touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of our nations’ veterans,
integrating our compassion with highly effective programs so that these individuals gain an opportunity to reclaim their lives
and overcome any barriers they feel have hindered their success.

Volunteers of America of Florida’s Veterans Mobile Service Center

Volunteers of America of Florida continues to outreach and expand its capacity to elevate the human spirit.  The fact
that the Florida Veterans Mobile Service Center is a program “on wheels” allows the team to go where the need is greatest. 

Owned and operated by Volunteers of America of Florida, the Florida Veterans Mobile Service Center utilizes a
40-foot state of the art vehicle equipped with a medical and a dental exam room /equipment, bunks and satellite
communication links to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).The MSC is designed to reach out to homeless
veterans on the streets and rural encampments throughout Florida.  This mobile unit offers a unique opportunity to
provide homeless veterans immediate assistance of food and clothing, health screening and assessment, VA benefit
determination and counseling, as well as assessment of housing, mental health, substance abuse, employment,
educational and vocational needs.

A team of Volunteers of America of Florida and Department of Veterans Affairs staff provides services. In addition to
crisis intervention and short term counseling, this on-site mobile service unit provides linkage to community services
in order to increase the potential for residential stability.
